First Massage Since Graduating
Last night was the first massage I did since graduating from school and the first I’ve gotten paid for. Since I’ve decided that I do not want to work at Massage Envy or a spa, I’m attempting to start my own mobile massage business.
The massage itself went well for the most part. I massaged a friend who is a runner and former coworker. She seemed pretty happy with the massage....

Touch...
Caress, contact, stroke, embrace, cuddle, palpate are all words used to describe the act of touching. Touch can have different nuances depending on the variable: the giver, the receiver, the setting, time of day and our state of mind. Touch can be soft, rough, comforting, firm, sensual and at times unwanted and unwelcomed. It depends on the intent in which it is given and received.

Finished With School!
I am officially done with school! We had our last clinic Wednesday night. I massaged three clients, two I had previously worked on. It’s been a long year of evening and weekend classes and I am happy to say that it’s done.
Graduation is not until October 24th. In the meantime I’ve completed my application for a New Jersey license. Next step is to complete the finger...

New Goals
Now that school is coming to an end this week, I think it’s time for me to set and meet some new goals.
The first is a goal I’ve had for years and at times been successful with…..losing weight. If I’m going to be successful as a massage therapist, I need to be at my best and I’m not that carrying around so much extra weight. I know what needs to be done, the...

One Night of Clinic Left
I cannot believe that my class has only one night of clinic left and then we are done with school. The year has been amazing. We’ve learned so much about the body and the art of massage. We’ve become friends over the last year as we helped each other along the way. I wonder if we’ll keep in touch after graduation, I plan to.
My next decision is to decide what’s next. Do...

Bring A Body Day
Today I volunteered for Bring A Body day for another class at school today. They will be starting clinic in November and were in need of bodies to get an idea of what a full day of clinic would be like. I was lucky enough to receive three massages.
First of all it was great to get some bodywork done, I haven’t had much since my class started clinic in June. Secondly it was great to give...

Cranial Sacral Massage Therapy →
fitnessrepublic:
Cranial sacral massage therapy is possibly the most subtle and gentle form of massage there is. It is most beneficial for those individuals who suffer from chronic pains of sorts. Cranial sacral massage therapy has the effect of freeing the body from stress and calming the nervous system down, thereby leading to pain relief. It can be considered more of a bodywork...

Law Class
Just got out of a four hour class on New Jersey’s massage therapy licensing law that passed on September 4th. The law requires anyone in the state of,New Jersey, that practices massage therapy, to be licensed.
Most of the class was common sense, but there was important information about advertising, continuing education requirements, sexual harassment, hygiene and license renewal.
New...

Just A Few Weeks Left...
We are down to just a few short weeks until we are finished with classes. Four evenings of clinic, two nights of lecture on Law & Ethics and one class for chair massage and we are done. At this point we’re ready for it to be over, we have been at this for almost a year. Graduation is scheduled for October 24th, exactly one full year from the day we started.
Pretty soon we will be...

Theraputic Massage IS NOT Sexual
I seem to have this conversation at least once every ten days. Usually it begins by me telling someone that I’m currently in school for massage therapy. I normally get one of the following replies…..ewww, you want to touch people or someone makes a joke about happy endings.
One of the first things we were taught in school is that theraputic massage is not sexual in nature. That yes,...

Six Weeks To Go!
I can’t believe that we have just six weeks of school left. Six more nights of clinic and three nights of law, business and ethics classes. We have one more weekend class, it was postponed from earlier this summer due to a death in the instructor’s family.
We are definitely in the home stretch!
